The Difference Between Indoor and Outdoor LED Displays: A Complete Selection Guide

LED displays are widely used in various indoor and outdoor scenarios, but many users are confused about the selection of indoor and outdoor screens. In fact, due to the great differences in ambient light, weather conditions and use requirements, indoor and outdoor LED displays have clear boundaries in product design and performance parameters. Choosing matching equipment according to scenarios is the key to ensuring stable operation and good display effect.
First of all, brightness is the biggest difference. The indoor environment is soft with no strong light irradiation, so indoor LED displays have low brightness, generally between 300cd/㎡ and 800cd/㎡. The picture is soft and not dazzling, which is suitable for long-term viewing. Outdoor scenes are affected by strong sunlight all day. Outdoor LED displays need ultra-high brightness of 5000cd/㎡ or above to ensure clear and visible pictures under direct sunlight, avoiding screen whitening and invisible content.
Secondly, the protection level is completely different. Indoor screens are used in closed and clean environments, with no need for high waterproof and dustproof performance, focusing more on display fineness. Outdoor displays need to cope with complex weather such as rain, snow, wind and dust, and need to reach IP65 high protection level. The whole screen has waterproof, dustproof, lightning-proof and high and low temperature resistance functions, which can operate stably in the temperature range of -40℃ to 60℃ and adapt to all-weather outdoor use.
In terms of pixel pitch and viewing distance, indoor displays mostly adopt small pitch such as P1.2, P1.5 and P2.5, with delicate pictures, suitable for short-distance viewing within 5 meters, and are mostly used in exhibition halls, conference rooms and command centers. Outdoor displays mostly adopt P3-P10 large pitch, with long viewing distance and strong anti-interference ability, suitable for outdoor squares, streets, and building exterior wall advertising scenarios.
In terms of later maintenance, indoor screens focus on daily dust cleaning and system debugging, while outdoor screens need regular inspection of waterproof structure, line aging and lightning protection facilities. Users must select indoor and outdoor equipment according to actual use scenarios. Blind selection will lead to poor display effect or frequent equipment failures, increasing unnecessary costs.
